Change is part of your life and as I coach those in the Parkinson’s world, I find my clients are dealing with a very dramatic sort of change. I too have had major change in my life and my work now is to help people guide their lives towards the best outcomes possible.

What I found in my life is that when major transformations enter into your life you do pass into a known pattern and it is helpful to know that pattern and find out if you are stuck in one particular stage.

Elizabeth Kubler Ross created a useful model called the 5 Stages of Grief. Yes it works great when you have a major loss like a death in the family. But it also helps explain our reaction to changes in our life.

A diagnosis is a clear example for my clients. You too may have experienced the five stages but may not have recognized them.

Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance are the stages. You will see that in the diagram she lists the kind of support you need. See if you recognize where you are stuck. Awareness is key to moving forward. If you can’t see where you are stuck, ask those you love to see where they think you are stuck.  If you find you want to talk to a mentor or coach, I am ready to help.
